Tomb of Tự Đức (Khiêm Mausoleum), also known as the Tomb of Emperor Tự Đức, was constructed by Emperor Tự Đức as a place of rest following his rule. He was a notable monarch, reigning for the longest period of 36 years among the thirteen Nguyen Dynasty emperors.
Amidst all the tombs and the Imperial City in Huế, Lăng Tự Đức stands as my favorite destination. Although not expansive, exploring the entire tomb can take up an entire day. The architecture of Lăng Tự Đức is quite similar to the tomb of Emperor Minh Mạng, and it's part of the architectural complex of tombs and palaces belonging to the Nguyen Dynasty in the ancient capital of Huế.
My favorite aspect of the tomb is probably Hồ Lưu Khiêm (formerly a small stream within the tomb area, which was later expanded into a lake). Adjacent to the lake are Xung Khiêm Tạ and Dũ Khiêm Tạ pavilions, where the emperor used to compose poetry, read books, and relax. Currently, visitors can also enter these pavilions, but it's important to remove your shoes before entering. The feeling of standing amidst the natural surroundings, gazing at the blue sky and water, and watching the lively fish swimming below is truly serene.
To share all the information about this tomb, it would likely take a whole day to read. From the various parts of the tomb, its historical construction, architecture, and even information about Emperor Tự Đức, there's already a wealth of information available. If you're passionate about cultural and historical values, searching online for more specific details would be recommended.
Lăng Tự Đức is located about 6km away from the center of Huế city. If you plan to visit multiple tombs and the Imperial City, purchasing combination tickets can help you save a significant amount on costs. Ticket information is available at the entrance of each tomb, so you can inquire there.
My return to Huế brought about many emotions. I experienced a wide range of weather conditions in Huế. Ultimately, Huế, to me, feels poetic without being melancholic.
Below are some images of my check-ins at various spots in Huế, places that I hold in great affection.
